At the heart of any web development project or communications strategy are the stories. Stories of how the church is reaching out in ministry to the community, member testimonials, as well as the history. Often times these stories are lost because they aren’t passed down to the next generation, or no one has taken the time to keep a record.
In many cases, archiving your church history is put on the backburner. And for some congregations, important records, photos and documents are simply boxed up and stored. Those that have taken the time to digitize documents have stored to thumb drives or DVDs – all of which have a limited shelf life.
My father, an avid genealogist for more than 30 years, shared with me a new product that claims to allow you the ability to permanently store your digital information to DVD — ultimately storing the information forever. The M-DISC and M-WRITER drive looks to be a solution that churches serious about recording their history might want to investigate. The nominal starting price of $290.00 seems reasonable as well.
So how is your church keeping record of its history? Please comment below.
