The Power of WordPress [Infographic]

As I’ve shared with you in the past, most of the designs I create are eventually powered by WordPress. Many still see WordPress as “that blogging system” … it’s far from that. The infographic below, created by TechKing, shows the growth and popularity of WordPress.

My Favorite WordPress Plugins

My favorite WordPress pluginsI am fully committed to WordPress. In the nearly 18 years that I’ve been designing and developing websites, I’ve explored a number of content management systems and blogging applications. Yes, there are many open-source content management systems out there, but it’s my opinion that WordPress is the most customizable and easiest for my clients to learn and manage.

These are my favorite WordPress plugins (in no particular order):

  • AkismetProtect your blog from comment and trackback spam. It keeps your site protected from spam even while you sleep. (REQUIRED FEE)
  • Efficient Related PostsA related posts plugin that works quickly even with thousands of posts and tags.
  • Flickr TagInsert Flickr sets, tags, photostreams, group pools or individual photos into your posts using a special WordPress tag.
  • Google XML SitemapsThis plugin will generate a special XML sitemap which will help search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com to better index your blog.
  • Gravity FormsEasily create web forms and manage form entries within the WordPress admin. (REQUIRED FEE)
  • RedirectionManage all your 301 redirects and monitor 404 errors.
  • SexyBookmarksAdds a (X)HTML compliant list of social bookmarking icons to each of your posts.
  • TentBlogger SEO CategoriesSEO Categories optimizes your permalink structure at the category level to make them as functional (and pretty) as possible for both your users and the search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo) that index your content.
  • Thank Me LaterAutomatically send a ‘thank you’ e-mail to those who comment on your blog. This plugin engages the visitor by reminding them to check back for responses or new blog posts.
  • WP Greet BoxShow a different message to your visitor depending on which site they are coming from.

This is my short list. I will be sure to add more suggestion in the future. If you have favorites, please share them in the comments below.

Live Video Broadcasting Without Breaking Your Church Budget

LIVE THEME LOGO

Many churches are “finally” realizing the impact that streamed media can have. One way that your church can quickly and easily embrace new media is by offering streaming video of your weekly sermon. If you’re not ready to broadcast your sermon, consider offering a video broadcast Bible study. The ideas are endless when you have the right tools.

One of those tools that makes video broadcasting easy is Live Theme. Live Theme is a WordPress theme that allows you to present a live or archived video stream from a single web page while allowing your viewers to interact and discuss the broadcast. Built on the same codebase as Standard Theme, Live Theme offers a wealth of tools:

  • Timer that counts down to your broadcast;
  • Rotating “bumper” images for ad placement;
  • Animated Twitter stream;
  • Facebook stream;
  • Optional photo stream;
  • Integration of social icons;
  • Google tracking code placement;
  • Full customization of style sheet;
  • Page navigation/menu control;
  • And much more!

I encourage you to take a look at Live Theme’s demo page to see it in action.

And I haven’t shared the best news yet … Today Live Theme announced a significant price reduction! This is not a temporary sales promotion. You can now purchase a Live Theme license for $49. Well worth this small investment.

If you or your organization are interested in learning more about WordPress development or Live Theme/Standard Theme customization, please let me know. Enjoy!
