I find myself viewing archive videos from the Ted Talks on a weekly basis. I recently found the following video (below) from Mike Rowe, the host of Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs. Mike tells some compelling (and horrifying) real-life job stories. While his insights and observations focus on the nature of hard work, and how it’s been unjustifiably degraded in society today, I was once again reminded that true happiness comes when you are doing what you love.
In a post published last May, I wrote how my career aspirations changed when my wife shared that she felt as if she was living the life of a single parent. This was not the life that either one of us had imagined; I was determined to make a change. I went to work the next day and turned in my resignation. Mike’s video brought back memories of that time in my life, and reminded me that it’s not a dirty job, if you love what you’re doing.
